The spacecraft is in a near-polar orbit at an altitude of 705 km, and its instruments are collecting global data concerning the Earth's ice cover, snow cover, soil moisture, water vapor, clouds, precipitation, atmospheric and surface temperatures, greenhouse gases, radiation budget, and vegetation. Hundreds of scientists from around the world are involved in the data analysis; and fire fighters, weather forecasters, and the U. S. military are all making use of the Aqua data. The talk will include an overview of the mission, video from the launch, computer animations, a few sample plots, and many sample images.
